IFC Certified Software
The IAI facilitates a certification process where software companies can establish a group to test the IFC interfaces. This group is facilitated by the IAI, but the responsibility for the quality of interfaces remains with the software company. The certification process is split into two phases, in step 1 the IFC interfaces are tested against an agreed set of unit test cases, whereas in step 2 the IFC interfaces are tested against selected project files coming from beta customers.
The IFC certification process certifies the ability of the software vendors to understand IFC and the selected IFC view definition. It confirms that the software company has participated in the certification program and has been able to import the test cases with sufficient quality. The IFC certification cannot guarantee that the IFC utilities provided by the software vendors is bug free.
The IFC certification is a facilitated self certification, where participating software companies agree to continue the quality assurance process after the final certification workshop.
IFC2x3 Coordination View
Each IFC certification is based on a view definition. An IFC view represents a subset of the IFC specification that is needed for a particular exchange scenario. The current certification process is based on the IFC2x3 Coordination View targeting the coordination process between architecture, building services and structural engineering, or the exchange of common data between Architectural CAD, Building Service CAD, and Structural design application.
